This site is an open work in progress, and honestly, I don’t expect that I’ll ever “finish” it. This is where I will be performing experiments, and testing code. Especially when I learn about a new CSS trick, WordPress significantly updates their platform or base themes, or if an interesting plugin comes out. To do this testing, I’ll need content, so I’m also keeping my work samples, artwork, and portfolios here. I’m also blogging a bit about my work on my Adam’s Workshop page—it’s sort of a journal I can refer to later or use as an example for my friends.

My latest project on this site is this theme. WordPress recently released the new Twenty-Twenty-Three base theme. So far, the new “editor” interface is working better than it did before, and there are fewer errors, but accomplishing any one goal is often a bit convoluted. There is no longer a navigation menu system integrated into WordPress base themes. Instead, we place a navigation block and edit that block like any other. The menu’s persistence across pages is now based on the template system, which is now much more flexible than it was a year ago. One of the tricks is that the Front Page and Posts page have to be set appropriately in the settings menu. The new Query block is also hard to work with. It lacks clarity and has very few options. The post list block actually feels a lot more effective. Eventually, I’ll get this theme in shape and I’ll move this entry to a fresh Web Development post, but so long as I’m working on it, I may as well say it here.
